Cayman Islands
Located in the western Caribbean Sea, the Cayman Islands are a group of three islands. The islands that make up the Caymans are Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Under British control, they have been inhabited by Europeans since the 1500’s though not settled by Europeans largely until the 1700’s. The Cayman Islands are a British overseas territory, which simply means that although they under the sovereignty of Britain, they are not actually a part of the United Kingdom itself.
Geography of The Cayman Islands from All Inclusive Excursions Travel Clubs
The Cayman Islands are actually peaks on an underwater ridge called the Cayman Trench. What you see are just the tips of an underwater mountain that is over 8,000 feet tall. The highest point of the Cayman Islands is located on one of the smaller, less known islands, Cayman Brac. Called The Bluff, this peak stands 141 feet above the ocean.
