Ecotourism
Responsible Tourism from All Inclusive Excursions Dallas
There have been tourists for thousands of years. Even Pharaohs and Kings had favorite places to get away from everyday life. Tourism and vacationing play an important part in peoples lives and for different reasons. Some travel simply to get away, some travel to experience new things and more recently, there are people who travel to make other places better. Tourism has an impact on areas that are highly traveled to especially. It is almost a vicious cycle, entire areas have become completely dependent on travel and the reason they became popular in the first place such as remoteness or uniqueness has disappeared inadvertently.
With the growing concern by people over the current situation of the world and the fact that tourism is one of the largest industries worldwide, it only makes sense to find a way to help the area we are traveling to, become informed, as well as enjoy ourselves on vacation. Many natural areas are finding ways to do just that. By offering informed guided tours of a natural area, people are learning while they vacation. Tourism to the Amazon is a wonderful example. Guides throughout the area are focusing the industry on a wide variety of topics and areas of study. Tours of the area focused on herpetology, plant life, biodiversity and the like are now being offered to tourists as well as the traditional site seeing and fishing expeditions of the past.
What is Ecotourism?
Ecotourism tends to be quite general depending on what the source of the information. The general consensus is that Ecotourism is “responsible travel to natural areas which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of the local people”. By this definition, just going to an ecological area alone is not Ecotourism it is only by adding a learning experience and raising awareness to the traveler or those who live in the area that makes it Ecotourism.
The term has become overused, and misused for years now. With the advent of new types of tourism such as “sustainable tourism, responsible tourism, nature based travel, or green travel” the term has become blurred with all of the others. With a clear definition of the types of travel now offered to you, perhaps you will be able to make an informed decision on what type of travel is right for you.
What is Geotourism?
Geotourism seems to be quite similar to Ecotourism in that it is meant to enhance the character of a place in ways such as culture, environment and heritage. This is a relatively new term having been introduced publicly in 2002. It is a broader defined category than the previous Ecotourism and Sustainable tourism. Development of an area based on the areas cultures and traditions rather than standardized branding.
